Are devices belonging to passengers or in the passenger area also blocked?

No. Only the driver's area is restricted—including arm's reach into the passenger space. Passengers and those in the back seat can use their smartphones completely normally.

Can the driver still make calls (hands-free)?

Yes. Hands-free calling via the vehicle's system, CarPlay, and Android Auto remain fully active—only the use of the display while held in the hand is restricted in the driver's area.

Do navigation, CarPlay, and Android Auto still work?

Yes, without restriction. Everything that runs through the vehicle—navigation, music, voice control—continues to work as usual.

What happens in the event of tampering or if the device is unplugged?

If the nofon system is tampered with or unplugged from the OBD port, fleet management receives a notification. This allows managers to clarify the incident, speak with employees, and provide targeted retraining.

What happens if the smartphone is held in the passenger area?

The restricted zone is intentionally set to extend to the middle of the passenger seat, as the driver's outstretched arm can reach into the passenger area. The display remains locked in that space.

What exceptions are possible—and how does the system behave in everyday use?

Defined exceptions, such as a diabetes app or devices used by emergency responders, can be individually enabled. In everyday use, the system works automatically without any action from the driver.

Do emergency calls still work?

Yes, always. Emergency and roadside assistance calls are never blocked—safety-critical functions remain accessible at all times.
